Hope all is well and you're still going for it! It's smart of you to check in with your mental attitude - sometimes I think that it is the only thing holding me back at times. I finished my first full IM in July and practically fell in love. I don't know if I'll go back to the 70.3, but I will tell you that a full gave me better perspective on the half. While the full is a true test of endurance and self-awareness or simply a really long workout, the half seems so much more "raceable". I recommend the full IM! Good luck!

So sorry for the late reply. I took a year off to handle my transition from Army Soldier to entrepreneur, and am back at it in 2011. Stay tuned for some more info :)

I came across your website today and have a read a number of your posts. What a great journey you are having. I am training for my first triathlon after leading a couch lifestyle for a good number of years. I'm having the time of my life in getting fit. Thanks for inspiring me. Training has been a bit tough lately especially my swimming. Looking forward to reading more race reports which are excellently written by the way....

As a fellow triathlete who just finished her first Olympic distance yesterday, and am doing a 70.3 in September, I am curious to know how your pro-triathlete journey is going? Thanks.

I'm 27 years old and I'm about to participate in my first Triathalon. It's the lava man on Kona. I found this new passion of mine while joining team and training. I'm doing it for the memory of my mom and my child hood friend, who both lost their battles with cancer. I thought triathalons would be a cake walk, but as I'm learning, it not so easy. I stumbled across this website wondering what it would take to be a professional triathlete... It looks like it would take a lot. I do have natural athletic talent and currently am training my guts out for this thing, and I just want you to know that your plan puts it into perspective. The triathletes who go out and compete inspire me. Maybe one day I could get there, but I want you to know that I'm cheering for you as well. I've included the link just if anyone would like to know more or support my cause. Good luck to all and I hope to see you out there one day.

Eve,

The air quality is really bad there and although I think you'll be able to manage, I'm not qualified enough to give you an answer with 100% certainty. It's going to be rough at first, but you do get used to it over time.

I'm thinking about going there to work, I have asthma. Do you think that would present a problem.

Thank you

Ryan,

Thanks for commenting, great to hear from you!

Unfortunately, my OBX plans hit a snag with some work related issues. I've thought about going anyway, but if I learned anything from my experience at the Pinehurst Triathlon (results yet to be posted...need to get on that), it's that I shouldn't go into an even underprepared. I could finish, but I don't want to kill myself.

The good news is that I have all winter to prepare for Boston, which I'll be attending thanks to a free military slot.

What has your season/training been like? Would love to hear more.

How's the lead up to the obx marathon coming? I have been following for a little while now but for some reason I have been unusually quite. I live in Jacksonville (Camp Lejeune area), my wife is a Navy Nurse, and have similar ambitions to earn a pro card from USAT.

Anyway, just wanted to break the silence and wish you a strong day at OBX.
